Serena Williams has broken her silence regarding her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, which she hasn't commented on publicly since making the announcement late last month (December 29).

Williams, one of the greatest athletes in the world, revealed during a post-match press conference -- following her first round victory at the Australian Open, where she defeated opponent Belinda Bencic -- that she hasn't paid too much mind to the engagement as she's understandably (and wisely!) been laser-focused on her career.

“I guess it feels good,” she said of the forthcoming nuptials. “I really haven't thought about it too much, because I wasn’t even really gonna think about it until after the tournament. So, I just keep saying, ‘February, I”ll start looking at the bigger picture of my life.’ But right now I’m just so focused that this is all I can think about.”

Williams did, however, offer some kind words about her fiance, saying, “He’s incredibly — a really nice person. I think he definitely treats everyone the same, which is really cool to see. Really, really nice to see.”

The tennis champion fittingly announced the engagement on Reddit last month (December 29) in the form of a poem. Ohanian then used his own Reddit account to respond to the post, writing, “And you made me the happiest man on the planet.”

The couple have remained notoriously low-key since they first started dating back in 2015, some time after Williams ended her relationship with rapper Drake.
