Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are either close friends and collaborators, or K-I-S-S-I-N-G as E! claims. Their new "I Know What You Did Last Summer" duet only teases the issue further, and Late Late Show host James Corden definitely noticed when the two visited the show last night.

The two certainly have a few things in common. They both arrived at fame through platforms that didn't exist 15 years ago — Shawn's Vine covers landed him a major-label deal, and Simon Cowell saw Camila Cabello's star material on singing competition show X Factor, making her a part of Fifth Harmony in 2012. As evident in the video above, they're also both notably earnest performers. And despite a little trouble falling into rhythm with each other at the outset (it is a new track, to be fair) they hit their stride by the middle and Camila was letting her vocal runs run free.

Shawn and Camila also shared a chat with Corden, where the teens rolled around like a couple of squirmy puppies. Camila said she was grateful that Corden pronounced her name correctly (she includes a helpful guide on Twitter) and, after the pair detailed their respective crazy-successful years, James served up some fan-sourced questions. Yes, one of those questions was about their couple status. So, are they dating?

"Well...no," they answered together.

"Can I be honest? I don't believe you," Corden said. "There's no way you haven't made out."

After some semi-uncomfortable looks between them and a "field this!" gesture from Camila, Shawn offered, "Every time I try she just swears me off."

Camila swooped further obscure the issue: "He friend-zones me! He calls me 'kid'!"

As the awkwardness deepened they backtracked, saying they were just friends. Watch the exchange for yourself — do you think they're strictly platonic? Secret lovers? Only in it for the collabo and boiling with mutual hatred inside? Hazard a guess in the comments.
