While many performers went for special effects onstage, Shawn Mendes stripped things down when he performed "Life of the Party" at the 2015 Juno Awards Sunday night (March 15).

With his guitar in hand, Shawn hardly looked fazed on the FirstOntario Centre stage in Hamilton, Canada. Dressed comfortably in dark jeans, slip-on sneakers, a white tee and dark gray jacket, his vocals were strong and confident as he serenaded each and every teen girl in the audience — and everyone else who happened to attend the awards show. And they were ready with their phones to record the moment while they sang along. Then midway through the tune, the screens behind Shawn lit up to show different people in the audience. By the end of the set, the crowd wailed into applause, proving that this 16-year-old clearly has the chops even on this major stage.

His performance on Sunday evening comes less than a week after he released the video for "Life of the Party." When he was asked how he felt about performing at this awards show, he said, "Obviously it's a huge, huge deal in Canada, and for my family and friends, this is a massive, massive deal. For me, it obviously is as well. Growing up and always watching, it's something really, really cool. I feel honored and excited so it's really cool."
