Although Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn't hit theaters until this winter, fans are already buzzing about the newest movie in the franchise. The cast appears on the June 2015 issue of Vanity Fair, which makes us even more excited.

The cover, shot by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, portrays longtime characters Chewbacca and Han Solo (Harrison Ford), as well as newcomers Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and droid BB-8.

The Vanity Fair feature, which includes even more exciting photos, confirms that Girls star Adam Driver will play Kylo Ren. (The image of him backed by snowtroopers is all the proof we need of how ominous his role is.) The magazine also gives Star Wars fans a glimpse at Lupita Nyong'o's CGI character or, more specifically, the technology that was used to capture her face for the character of Maz Kanata.

Vanity Fair even shared a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot, which provides a deeper look into the making of the movie.

"It's a tremendous honor to have a photographer like Annie Leibowitz want to come to our set," Kathleen Kennedy, producer and Lucasfilm president, said. "It was incredibly exciting to see her experience a new generation and bring it alive on the page."

"Star Wars is many things, but the core of this story had to be the thing that makes any story work, which is the characters," added director J.J. Abrams. "And there's just that idea of this new, young generation and that feeling of this brand-new adventure. This brand-new story that will be a bridge between what we know and who we know and everything that comes next."

Vanity Fair's June 2015 issue hits newsstands on May 12. Check out the video below for an amazing look at the editorial shoot. Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18.
