Steven Tyler may have ruffled some feathers last year with his Aerosmith bandmates, but after just a few weeks of appearing on the nation's favorite talent show, 'American Idol,' his band may in fact be thanking him.

Season 10 premiered Jan. 19, and though the show may have wrapped the lengthy process of first round auditions just last night, it has revived a star that may make viewers quickly forget who Simon Cowell is. Well maybe not entirely, but according to Billboard, Tyler's band Aerosmith suddenly has new relevance, catapulting their album sales of more than 250 percent for the Boston band's Greatest Hits collection. Another compilation, 1994's 'Big Ones' has increased sales of up to 260 percent.

Among singles and digital downloads, power ballad 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing,' the theme from 'Armageddon' penned by Diane Warren, is up a whopping 363 percent in sales. The breakout single 'Dream On' also enjoys an increase -- specifically 318 percent in sales.

Tyler hasn't just brought honesty to the judging panel, he's delivered several nights of entertainment with snarky comments, cartoonish facial expressions and overall unpredictable behavior that may rival Paula Abdul. He's even reminded viewers of his jaw-dropping chops and broad vocal range, at times singing duet-like phrases with contestants during their auditions. Though some of Aerosmith's songs have been synced to the program on several occasions, its probably the essence of Steven Tyler that has driven consumers to click the download button or pick up an album.

Two weeks ago North Carolina contestant Scott McCreery performed an impressive take on country artist Josh Turner's 'Your Man' during his audition in Milwaukee and upon being accepted to the Hollywood round, a convinced Tyler offered one of his early standout one-liners: "Well hellfire, save matches, f--- a duck and see what hatches."

“I think he’s a great choice [for ‘Idol']," Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford tells the Boston Herald. "I always told him he should be a stand-up comedian because he’s one of the funniest guys I’ve ever known in my life. I think people will see that as they get to know him better. He and J. Lo will bring a lot of authenticity to what they’re doing."
