Another one of Christina Aguilera‘s pop vocalists, Sylvia Yacoub, was the last female to perform on ‘The Voice‘ tonight (Nov. 12), and after her stellar piano-driven rendition of Katy Perry‘s ‘The One That Got Away’ last week, we were excited to see what she’d bring to the table this week.
As soon as we heard she was going to sing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion, we let out a groan loud enough to disturb our neighbors. If ever there was a need for a place where songs can go to retire and never be sung in public again, this would be one of them.
Yacoub was brave, though, to tackle the song, as it’s considered to be “up there,” as Aguilera put it, with the powerhouse vocals of Whitney Houston and then some. Luckily for the young 19-year-old, she overcame the difficult song and gave a pretty and incredible performance.
According to host Carson Daly, the song is one of the five hardest songs to sing (we’re too lazy to fact check that), so Yacoub deserves a lot of praise for singing it mostly on key and kudos for being one of the most ambitious singers in the competition.
