These days, synthpop and EDM (electronic dance music) are so popular that everybody wants a piece of the action. Lots of artists who started out in other genres have branched out into synthpop or EDM, reinventing their sound and sometimes changing their entire image.

Pop stars like Gwen Stefani and Nicki Minaj originally created music with a different sound (ska and hip-hop, respectively) but just as music ebs and flows, they have learned (just like the guys at Virgin Mobile) that you have to #retrainyourbrain to reinvent yourself. In some cases, the reinventions were subtle, as with the Black Eyed Peas' evolution from R&B and hip-hop to a more electro-influenced dance style. So, #retrainyourbrain on these artist as you know them now, and follow along as PopCrush examines 10 Synthpop and EDM artists who have reinvented themselves.
