Kesha

The unconventional and irreverent Kesha might have a reputation as a glitter-covered, electro-pop party girl, but she sought out a career in music with singular purpose. The singer-songwriter and rapper was born Kesha Rose Sebert in 1987 in Los Angeles. She was raised outside Nashville by her songwriter mother and quit high school to pursue her dreams. Kesha (formerly stylized as Ke$ha) paid her dues as a backup singer and songwriter for other artists before making her breakthrough with an uncredited appearance on Flo Rida’s ‘Right Round’ in 2009. Her debut album, 2010’s ‘Animal,’ hit the top of the charts and its lead single, the Auto-Tune-heavy ‘Tik Tok,’ was the year’s best-selling single. A stint in rehab in early 2014 for an eating disorder didn’t stop her from having a No. 1 hit with Pitbull during that time, ‘Timber.’
