This epic hour of 'Once Upon a Time' almost felt like a proper series finale, what with the many poignant flashbacks to pivotal moments in the major characters' lives and Regina's spell finally being broken. But this isn't the end for 'OUAT,' this was merely a mid-season finale that cleverly set the stage for a new tale of fantasy, heroism, and weirdness for 2014. Sure, this episode kinda rebooted the series (again), but that's not such a bad thing considering how dull several of the episodes have felt this year. Maybe shaking things up will breathe new life into the show. But before we start talking about the future, let's discuss this episode, 'Going Home,' a little more in depth.
Once Upon a Time
This episode of 'Once Upon a Time' managed to pull off two promising tricks that just might pull this middling season out of the gutter: It left the dull Neverland jungle behind (Thank you, show!) and it managed to raise the dramatic stakes in a satisfying way with a killer cliffhanger ending.
Peter Pan's origin is revealed this week, and the story behind the villain's dark power is a truly sad and twisted tale. But that should come as no surprise to fans of 'Once Upon a Time'; we're used to things getting super dark (and super weird) right before the dawn, and 'Think Lovely Thoughts' was one of the darkest episodes of the season -- and not only because it featured a creepy voice-over cameo from Marilyn Manson.
For an episode that was touted as a "return to Storybrooke," this week's installment of 'Once Upon A Time' sure spent a ton of time following the characters who are stuck in the shadowy prison of Neverland, which only made me miss sunny Storybrooke even more. "Dark Hollow" had its moments, but it mostly delivered more of the same stuff we've been sitting through all season -- the major characters wandering around Neverland's jungle and bickering.
Ariel (JoAnna Garcia), aka "The Little Mermaid," swam her way to 'Once Upon a Time' this week for a charming, if tragic, new episode. Staying true to form, 'OUAT' tweaked the classic Little Mermaid tale, adding darker shades to the story and setting the stage for a great surprise ending.
It's a whole new world for fans of 'The Little Mermaid' with a live-action Ariel making her debut on the Nov. 3 episode of 'Once Upon a Time.'
This new promo for the episode, aptly titled 'Ariel,' features JoAnna Garcia ('Royal Pains,' 'Privileged') as everyone's favorite mermaid who dreams of walking on two feet and marrying her handsome prince
Our favorite fantasy anti-hero, Captain Hook, nabbed the spotlight in 'Good Form,' this week's episode of 'Once Upon a Time.'
