With the 'Glee' Season 3 premiere fast approaching (Sept. 20), and the release of 'Glee: The 3D Concert Movie’ hot on our heels (Aug. 12), we simply can't protect ourselves from going into full-on gleek mode. Luckily, we snagged the Tap Tap 'Glee' app, which is currently available for a free iPhone download in the iTunes store.

First and foremost, Tap Tap 'Glee' is a game -- picture it like a Dance Dance Revolution for your fingers, or a pocket-size Guitar Hero. To start, you pick a totally 'Glee' track to play along to (we chose 'Don't Stop Believin'') and get those fingertips ready for the workout of the year.

As the little ovals (tappers) fly downward on the screen, it's your job to stop them by tapping them before they fly past your target zone and you miss them, resulting in lost points. You can hold on to the ones with tails to gain extra points. When you see an arrow, you'll want to grip your iPhone tight and shake it in the direction they're pointing. It's simple to check your accuracy in the top right corner along the way, but be forewarned -- even on 'easy' we were struggling to keep up with the beat.

In addition to the game, Tap Tap 'Glee' offers Yearbook, Social, Gleeks vs. Jocks and Video sections, so you can check out stats on all of your favorite characters, tweet about the show and even slushy your friends. In the video section, you can view a plethora of performances from real 'Glee' episodes, like Destiny's Child's 'Bills, Bills, Bills,' Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know,' Lady Antebellum's 'Need You Now' and more!

We're still getting our Tap Tap bearings, but as far as free apps go, this one is pretty stacked with plenty of cool things, even if the game is a bit tough. The biggest downfall is that you have to pay for songs to play with, but you can download a free track each day, and you get five to start with. Better get to tapping! The Tap Tap 'Glee' app is available for free download here.
