Taylor Swift Previews ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ on ‘GMA’

Taylor Swift previewed the new track ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’  from the forthcoming ‘Red’ on ‘Good Morning America’ today (Oct. 8), sharing details of what inspired the “chaotic” song along with 20 seconds of music.

As to be expected, Swift confessed that this song is inspired by heartbreak and how she saw all the signs that this particular lover was no good, but she went for it anyway. That’s life. That’s love! Better to regret something you have done than something you haven’t, right? Plus, Swift jumping into that romance feet first yielded what sounds like a terrific song, so everybody wins.

The singer laid her cards up on the table and revealed that she personally loves the song because the emotion that inspired it translates well into the song, and it crackles with intensity. “It’s the song that’s one of my favorites on the album because it sounds just as chaotic as the feeling was when I wrote it,” she shared, looking prim and proper with her side pony, cardigan and flowered dress. She looks like a First- Lady-in-training, which isn’t a stretch, since she is dating a Kennedy.

She continued, “It’s a song about kind of being frustrated with yourself, because here you are heartbroken, and you knew when you first saw that person, you saw all these red flags and you just went for it anyway. So shame on me.”

No shame, Taylor. Live and learn, girl!

As for the sound of the song, there’s a bit of bite to Swift’s lyrical delivery. It also demonstrates more of the pop side, as opposed to the country side, of Swift. Her voice also is layered, while the music has some synths to it. It’s a different shade for her, and we like it.

The lyrics are as follows, as well.

I knew you were trouble when you walked in
Shame on me now
Flew me to places
I’d never been
Til you put me down

Oh I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I’d never been

Now I’m lying on the cold hard ground
Trouble, trouble, trouble
