Taylor Swift attended the Sundance Film Festival for the first time last night (Jan. 20). Swift was in town to check out 'Ethel,' the film based on Ethel Kennedy. She hit the red carpet and dished on dining with her new, somewhat unlikely bestie.

Swift revealed that she met Ethel through her daughter, Rory, who directed the film. "I had read up on Robert F. Kennedy and his wife, and I asked Rory if it would ever be possible for me to meet her mother," Swift told the Boston Globe. "She said, ‘Here’s her number.’ Ethel was kind enough to have lunch and spend a few hours talking with me, and ever since then I’ve been so inspired by how full of life she is and the way she tells her story.’’

In December, Swift told Vogue that the only time she'd ever been starstruck was when she met Ethel. “I got to spend the afternoon with Ethel a couple of weeks ago,” Swift said. “She is one of my favorites, because you look back at the pictures of her and Bobby and they always look like they are having the most fun out of everybody.”

Swift's friendship with Ethel sent reporters into a frenzy. "Swift entered the staging area, and the place went nuts," one reporter blogged. "Turns out that the pop star and Ethel Kennedy are BFFs -- seriously, they sat together at the screening and giggled like schoolgirls." Okay, how cute is that visual? It sounds like everything Swift read about Ethel is still true!

'Ethel' premieres on HBO later this year, but Swift gave her own review of it already, tweeting, "Went to Sundance to see Rory Kennedy's documentary about her mother, @Ethel_Movie. It was moving, hilarious, and beautiful."
