Taylor Swift Goes Full Future-Goth at the 2016 Met Gala, Not Everyone Is a Fan
Taylor Swift is co-chair of the 2016 Met Gala, alongside Vogue's Anna Wintour and actor (and the next James Bond, if people have any sense) Idris Elba. This year's theme is Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, and — as you can see in the gallery below — some leaned into the possible "futuristic" interpretation of that theme more than others.
Taylor's "futuristic" commitment level registered at around 110%.
If you've paid attention to Taylor's lewks lately, you may have noticed she's gone alt-queen. The bleached hair, the dark lip, the asymmetrical sparkly dress and clodhoppers she wore to Gigi Hadid's birthday party last week: Maybe it all signals a new album cycle, maybe it's having graduated from boy band boyfriend to DJ boyfriend, perhaps she simply hired a new stylist with a ~vision~, but for better or for worse, this is 2016 Taylor Swift.
With its cutout panels and a silver snakeskin-pattern,Taylor's Louis Vuitton Met Gala minidress looks like something worn by Jem. Or any of her Holograms. Or their enemies, the Misfits. And her black lace-up shoes were...a fashion choice! A choice that lots of people had opinions about.
