Taylor Swift’s Lucky Number 13 Lands Her in Trademark Infringement Lawsuit
Taylor Swift fans are of course familiar with the singer’s long history with the number 13, from her birthday to her Twitter handle and everything in between. But the ’22′ star’s good luck charm has landed her in a bad spot this time — she’s being sued for trademark infringement!
E! News reported that Lucky 13, an Orange County-based apparel company, is suing the ‘Red’ singer. The lawsuit was filed this morning (May 20) and allegedly accuses Taylor of unauthorized use of Lucky 13’s registered trademarks.
The clothing company reportedly made several attempts to contact T. Swift’s people in the past, but without any response or resolution, they turned to legal assistance.
Taylor once shared with MTV just how special the number is to her. “The significance of the number 13 on my hand…I paint this on my hand before every show because 13 is my lucky number — for a lot of reasons,” the 24-year-old explained. “It’s really weird.”
She went on to add, “I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My first album went gold in 13 weeks. My first No. 1 song had a 13-second intro. Every time I’ve won an award I’ve been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section, or row M, which is the 13th letter…Basically, whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it’s a good thing.”
That’s a pretty good track record with the number. Hopefully her superstitious love of 13 will end the lawsuit in her favor!
