If you're still mourning Nina Dobrev's exit from The Vampire Diaries and have been anxiously awaiting her next project, good news: The trailer for The Final Girls has arrived.

The horror-comedy stars American Horror Story's Taissa Farmiga as Max, the daughter of a dead scream queen (played by Malin Ackerman), who takes her friends to a screening of her mom's most well-known movie. Max and her friends — who include Dobrev, Silicon Valley's Thomas Middleditch and Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat — get magically pulled into the movie's world, and that's when things get scary. They also get extremely meta.

Like Cabin In the Woods and Scream, The Final Girls looks like it explores the ridiculousness of horror movie tropes — the titular "final girl" refers to the (often virginal) girl who's still alive at the end. As Jamie Kennedy warned in Scream, having sex is the fast-track to getting slaughtered in a slasher flick, and that's acknowledged here as well. Watch the trailer:

The cast features still more familiar faces popular TV shows, including Workaholics' Adam DeVine and Pretty Little Liars' Chloe Bridges. While the PG-13 rating suggests few actual scares, the trailer's full of jokes most horror fans will appreciate.

Dobrev recently addressed fans' sadness over her decision to leave The Vampire Diaries in a speech at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards. After spitting out some giant fake fangs she said, "So, change. It's a scary word, or I used to think that, because it meant new beginnings. New beginnings with a future that was unknown."

"We've grown up, and over the last six years, we've become women," she continued. "These were six incredible years that I've had the pleasure of sharing with all of you guys. We wouldn't be here without you, I wouldn't be here without you... change is coming, so hold on and enjoy the ride."
