Midas Whale Wows Judges on ‘The Voice’ with ‘Folsom Prison Blues’

Hailing from Rexburg, Idaho, Midas Whale (aka Jon Peter Lewis and Ryan Hayes) impressed judges during their blind audition on ‘The Voice’ tonight (March 26) with a striking rendition of Johnny Cash’s ‘Folsom Prison Blues’. The folk duo even received a standing ovation from Usher – but who did they pick as their coach?

“We are the first duo that’s gonna win this,” spoke Midas Whale with confidence, likening themselves to Mumford and Sons. All four panelists turned around following their delivery of the well-known Cash tune, stunned by their musical talent (both vocal and instrumental), as well as their stage presence.

“When all four judges turned around, I felt a thrill run from my feet all the way to my head and then back down again, and then I think it ran into Jon and went through his whole body, too. It was thrilling,” remarked Lewis.

Shakira was completely smitten with Midas Whale – especially after finding out that they speak fluent Spanish – and Usher was sure to remind them that he was the first panelist to turn around. But in the end, the duo went with Adam Levine. Hayes mentioned that he’d like to pick Levine’s brain and soak up “whatever advice he can give us about, you know, how to navigate through the music industry.”

What are your thoughts about Midas Whale’s performance tonight? Feel free to discuss away in the comments!
