Last night's (Dec. 17) episode of 'The Voice' opened with each coach and many of the contestants from Season 3 singing 'Hallelujah' while holding cards with the names and ages of the students whose lives were tragically cut short last week during the shooting rampage which took place in Newtown, Ct. Most of the victims were single-digit in age, making it all the more heartbreaking.

Candles were placed at the edge of the stage, marking a somber, touching tribute to lives of innocents that were senselessly wiped out.

It is nearly impossible to hold back tears as Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera sang each part of the song.

The performance showed the redemptive and healing power of music, which can provide some comfort, solace and support in the hardest of times. Like right now, as the nation mourns and the families of the victims try to put their lives back together.

Well done, NBC and 'The Voice. Well done.
