The Wanted Throw Booze Over Balcony, Get Busted by Cops
Last Thursday (July 25), the Wanted partied it up in honor of Jay McGuiness’ 23rd birthday — but it sounds like they might have had a little too much fun.
The festivities got out of hand when the U.K. boy band reportedly threw champagne from a second-story window of London’s Marylebone Hotel and onto a passerby. Uh-oh!
The victim, Canadian poet and screenwriter Todd Swift, called the police after being doused in bubbly. He also claimed that the group of singers verbally abused him and called him “Barack Obama” on account of his accent.
According to The Sun, Swift had left the gym and was walking down the street when the incident took place.
“Suddenly I was hit with a lot of liquid,” he said. “It was not, as the police claim, a glass of champagne. It was a lot of liquid. It went all over my hat, jacket, shirt and face. I looked up to the second floor and there were three young guys laughing at me. One of them said, ‘P— and beer, mate.'”
“What sort of example are they setting to their young fans?” asked an outraged Swift.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said that “Police were called at around 12:20PM on Thursday, July 25, to a report of a man having been verbally threatened and having had a liquid substance thrown over him at a hotel in Marylebone.”
“Officers returned the next day, July 26, and spoke to the party identified,” the source added. “It was ascertained that a glass of champagne had been thrown, but there was no evidence of who, if anyone, had actually done this or been involved in any verbal altercation.”
“The victim was informed that without any further evidence there were no further lines of inquiry to pursue.”
In the end, the Wanted boys got off easy. Since there wasn’t enough evidence for the police to charge them based on Swift’s claims, all they received was a scolding.
