The Weeknd Arrested for Allegedly Punching a Cop

Bad news for R&B singer the Weeknd, who was arrested this past Saturday (Jan. 10) for allegedly punching a cop while in Las Vegas. According to TMZ, a fight reportedly broke out inside the Cromwell Hotel in the early hours of Saturday morning -- and when we say early, we're talking around 4:20 AM.

TMZ goes on to say that when police officers showed up to end the fight, one of them brought the Weeknd into an elevator where the singer allegedly punched said police officer in the head, causing him to be arrested on the spot. He was then reportedly taken to jail for "battery of a protected person." Yikes.

It looks like he was released, however, because hours later he posted a photo to Instagram indicating his freedom, captioning it "escaped from Las Vegas." He then went on to post a few selfies that showed him out and about, and even recording, so things seem to have resolved themselves, thankfully.

There's still no word as to what caused the fight, but we'll keep you updated if anything else surfaces.
