Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes to Make Appearance on TLC Tour
On the 10-year anniversary of Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes' death, her surviving TLC bandmates Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins and Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas have confirmed that they will embark on a tour this year. Left Eye will be part of the tour -- she will be projected on screens on the stage. Hey, if Tupac can be resurrected as a hologram, why can't a member of one of the most successful girl groups of all time?
Left Eye's image and likeness will be projected, and her vocals will also be featured in the live performances. That makes sense, since the group's massive hits since hits like 'No Scrubs,' 'Waterfalls,' 'Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg' and 'Creep' wouldn't be the same without the inclusion of Left Eye's nasally raps. Plus, it ain't really TLC without the "L."
The ladies' rep told TMZ that five cities are already booked, with more in the works in the coming weeks. This tour is a nice way for the remaining members of the trio to pay tribute to their late groupmate and their shared legacy. It'll feel like Left Eye is still with us.
In 2002, Lopes tragically passed away at the young age of 30 after getting into a car crash while visiting Honduras. Today, a previously unreleased song was also released today in honor of her memory, and T-Boz released a statement (via Us Weekly) today saying, "The word anniversary means a celebration. For us her death will never be a celebration -- it's still something that hurts."
Additionally, in other TLC news, Chilli confirmed that there will be a new album in the near future, telling Essence, "Another TLC album? Yes, that's for sure! We'll have new music right after the movie drops." The movie she is referring to is the TLC biopic that is currently in the works with VH1. The movie expected to arrive some time near the end of 2012.
