Well, that's no way to kick off a tour.

On the opening night of U2's Innocence + Experience Tour at Rogers Arena in Vancouver Thursday night (May 14), the band's 53-year-old lead guitarist David "the Edge" Evans fell off the stage during the encore. A concert attendee immortalized the moment in the Instagram video seen above.

He's okay, though. The Edge posted the below photo of his slightly bruised arm to U2's official Instagram early Friday morning with the self-referential caption, "Didn't see the edge, I'm ok!"

The guitarist caught a luckier break — or, not break — than U2 frontman Bono, who suffered serious injuries that required him to undergo surgery twice following a "high-energy" bicycle accident in New York City's Central Park last November. He reportedly shattered his arm in six places and suffered a broken eye socket.

“I really used to think that my head was harder than any surface it came in contact with, and I don’t anymore,” Bono later told the New York Times. “I didn’t come off a Harley-Davidson. I came off a push bike and smashed myself to bits. There is no glory here.” He revealed that due to his wounds he may never play guitar again.

The aging and accident-prone band will play their second show in Vancouver tonight before dipping into the states. They'll hit San Jose first and then wend their way through the U.S., culminating in a show at New York City's Madison Square Garden at the end of July. In September, the band head across the pond for the European leg of the world tour, where they'll make stops in Turin, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin, Barcelona, Koln, London, Glasgow and Paris.
