Fans watching ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ on Thursday night (Feb. 27) no doubt noticed the somber message that appeared on a simple black screen at episode’s end: “In Loving Memory of Sarah Jones, 1986-2014.”

The words paid tribute to a popular crew member on the CW series who was killed on Feb. 20 while working on a movie in Wayne County, Ga. The 27-year-old camera assistant was struck and killed by a train while filming an action sequence for ‘Midnight Rider.’ Production on the Gregg Allman biopic was shut down temporarily while police determined if any criminal charges — including homicide — would be filed against the film’s makers.

Sarah’s tragic death has rallied her mourning friends and colleagues to raise awareness about the paramount importance of safety on TV and movie sets. Camera crews and supporters worldwide are sharing photos of their clapboards in honor of Sarah and to promote on-set safety. A Facebook page, called Slates for Sarah, has been created to share the moving images with all.

“[The campaign is about] having the leadership roles on set really step up and say ‘no,’” Caroline Dries, executive producer of ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ tells HollywoodLife.com. “What we said to the crew the day after we learned [about Sarah's death] was ‘no shot will ever be as important as you, as your friends, as your family … as you are as people. This is not the end of the world. This job will never be the end of the world. You are always the most important person; the most important thing.’”
