In the newest commercial for the Verizon Wireless iPad2, the mobile network includes a bubbly, rock pop tune to help market their latest Apple product. The song in the commercial is none other than the Bow Wow Wow's 1982 smash hit 'I Want Candy,' which is actually a cover of a song that came nearly two decades prior.

Bow Wow Wow were pretty much a one hit wonder in the US, with their only mainstream hit being the new wave cover of the Strangeloves' 1965 track 'I Want Candy.' Even though Bow Wow Wow's version didn't chart that high in the US, the upbeat song has become somewhat of a cult classic within pop culture. On the other hand, the Strangeloves took their original rendition of 'I Want Candy' to No. 11 in the states.

While the infectious, lighthearted beat has been featured in countless films ('200 Cigarettes,' 'High Fidelity,' 'Marie Antoinette'), the beach-themed, super '80s video starring teenage beauty/lead singer Annabella Lwin was also a factor in the song's success. The song is such a pop staple, that the Black Eyed Peas even sampled it on their 2009 track 'Electric City.'
