Vicci Martinez blew away the coaches on the series premiere of 'The Voice' with her performance of Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep,' but it's not the first time the 26-year-old singer's vocal ability has left a lasting impression.

At 16-years-old, Martinez scored a ticket to Hollywood in the first season of 'American Idol,' but turned it down because she thought she wasn't ready to commit to the show's recording contract. She later surfaced as a contender in the 2003 season of 'Star Search.'

Over the past several years, the Tacoma, Wash., singer-songwriter has released a handful of independent albums, beginning with her 2003 debut disc, 'Sleep to Dream.' She has a loyal following on the road, and already has a number of gigs lined up for 2011.

Before taking the stage for her audition on 'The Voice,' Martinez talked about the difficulty of coming out of the closet to her religious parents as a teenager, as well as the death of her father five years ago. Her performance of 'Rolling in the Deep' struck a chord with Cee Lo Green, who will coach Martinez as she takes the latest step in her musical journey.
