Victoria Beckham Soaks in Tub on Glamour Cover, Wants Son to Date Taylor Swift
Normally, Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice of the Spice Girls, is known for her scowl and lack of smile. She's also known for being dressed to the nines and in towering heels at all times, even when nine months preggers. For the September issue of Glamour, Posh shows a totally different side of herself.
She serves as the issue's guest editor – and with her own mega successful, eponymous fashion line, she knows a thing or two about fashion. But the photos, featuring her soaking in a tub, blowing bubbles, sipping a milkshake and gnawing on a pen show her playful and cute side, as opposed to her normal glamazon image. The verdict? We like a playful Posh, not a grumpy looking one.
In the feature, Posh showcased her sense of humor, addressing her little-seen smile. "Do you know, I don't know?!," she said. "I actually used to smile a lot in pictures. I think I only stopped smiling when I got into fashion. [Laughs.] Fashion stole my smile! I've created this person. And I'm not saying that's not me, but I wouldn't say that's the whole me…. It's an armor that goes up."
Below is the full text of her editor's letter for the ish, in which she reveals how excited she was to tackle the challenge of guest editing and how she even created the mag's signature Dos and Don'ts list this month. So enterprising, isn't she?
VB would love to see country cutie and America's sweetheart Taylor Swift on a future cover, since Tay Tay is the type of girl she'd like one of her sons to date. Aw!
So many layers to V. Becks!
I'm often asked, if I weren't designing, what other job I would love to do. Once upon a time I would have said I'd be a ballet dancer—I trained as one for years! But if not dancing, I'd be a fashion editor. I've always loved fashion magazines, and I've collected international ones for as long as I can remember. So when Cindi called to ask if I would like to guest-edit the September issue, I jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with her. It's been exciting for me to see my ideas come to life, from type colors to photo selection to casting. (I have a soft spot for The Wanted—they're a great British export and such nice guys. They taught my son Brooklyn to play guitar!) I even made my own list of Glamour fashion Don'ts to keep out of the issue: boat shoes (unless of course you're designer Alber Elbaz or on a boat!), Bermuda shorts, nose rings, Crocs, and American tan tights (that's nude pantyhose to you).
Now, five months after we started working on this issue, it's finally here. You'll see my touch throughout the magazine and mostly in the stories on pages 271 through 309. I especially love the Lily Collins portfolio because she looks fresh and less polished—it's important to me that everything feel real, not overly retouched. (I love her little freckles and frizzy ponytail.) I also suggested who I'd like to see on future covers: actresses Chloë Moretz, Clemence Poésy, Bella Heathcote, Kate Bosworth, and Léa Seydoux—and singer Taylor Swift, who's so gorgeous and wholesome that I want my son to date her someday!
My hope is that this issue inspires you, takes you places you haven't been before (the Chanel story is a journey in itself), and makes you feel good. Tweet me and let me know! —Victoria Beckham, Guest Editor and Cover Star of Glamour, September 2012
