Paws up! Justin Bieber's Beliebers and Lady Gaga's little monsters are in the throes of a death match, with the goal of having their preferred victor reign supreme over Twitter. It's an epic battle of the digital age.

Right now, the Twitterverse is Gaga's domain, hands down (or paws up!). She's well on her way to a whopping 25 million followers. But The Biebs' faithful want him to usurp her position and make him the most followed person on the social networking site.

The New York Post chronicled the ensuing battle between the pop star's newly warring factions of fans.

One Biebaholic tweeted: "To all beliebers this is operation unfollow Lady Gaga." The Bieber fan also posted: "I'm sorry if your [sic] a 'little monster' but don't [you] want Justin to be #1 followed on Twitter? Well here is the plan we all know that all beliebers with twitter follow Justin and we don't have to [create] a million accounts with this plan. First, it's simple to lok up Lady Gaga on Twitter. Next unfollow her. Simple!" The fan is admittedly not anti-Gaga, instead feeling that the web would be a better place with Bieber reigning over Twitter instead.

The battle lines have been drawn, as #OperationUnfollowGaga hashtag is now in effect. #TheBieberNationIsDedicated. #LittleMonstersWillMountACounterAttack.

While Gaga has over 21 million followers, JB has over 19 million. He's not yet nipping at her platform heels, but he is her closest "competition."

We'd like to make a suggestion to Beliebers and little monsters. Drop your digital guns. It doesn't matter who has more followers. There is plenty of room for everyone in the 140-character space.
