Jake Paul is opening up to fans like never before in the wake of his split from Erika Costell.

In the first episode of his new web series, Jake Paul Uncut, the YouTube sensation revealed that the last "month or so" had been a trying time for the couple and, eventually, they decided it would be best to go their separate ways. Paul, 21, documented the days leading up to the split, in which he and those close to him discussed the effects of the relationship on his personal and professional life.

"For the past month or so, Erika and I's relationship has been like super rocky. It turned into this downward spiral where we were super toxic for each other. We know everything about each other and we know how to hurt each other. It's so sad that it got to this point," he said early in the 30-minute video.

Several of Paul's friends agreed that he and Costell were "toxic". The clip showed them arguing via text message regularly.

"What people don't realize, the lifestyles we live...when you're in that lifestyle it's so hard to have a committed, like, good relationship," best friend Chad Tepper said in the video, suggesting Paul's fame played a part in the downfall of his relationship with Costell. "So many people have left him and f---ed with him and took from him and took and took and...some of his best friends."

Jake Paul Uncut doesn't just highlight the bad times between Paul and Costell. The pair can be seen spending time with mutual friends, kissing and posing for pictures for fans. Paul can be heard telling Team 10 members he felt trapped in his relationship with Costell, whom he said was "great" and "an amazing girl."

"I just, I knew deep down it would be better for both of us to just, to move forward without each other as boyfriend and girlfriend. I'm not breaking up with her because I want to, I'm breaking up with her because it's what we both need," Paul explained in the video.

Costell didn't speak her piece in the video and hasn't addressed the split since Paul released Jake Paul Uncut. The video is currently available on his YouTube channel.

The pair were first linked back in April 2018. It's unclear exactly when their split happened, but the last photos of them together on social media are from August and September.
