Will Smith is a Philly boy. Don't you remember the lyrics to theme song of 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air?' He rather proudly raps "In West Philadelphia / Born and raised." Smith is coming home again, sort of. The rapper/actor and wife Jada Pinkett Smith are part of an investment group that has purchased the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team.

According to CSN Philly, the ownership group will be lead by multi-billionaire Joshua Harris. Harris released a statement about taking over the limping NBA franchise, saying, "My partners and I are thrilled to have become owners of the Sixers, It is an honor to become part of this storied franchise. We have a lot of work to do, but we have a rich history, a strong foundation and a bright future." With Will Smith on board, things should begin to look up for basketball fans in the City of Brotherly Love.

Despite this good news, the NBA is in the midst of a lockout this season, so not much will happen at the outset of this ownership swap due to rules and regulations. But once the hoops action resumes, we expect to see Smith come home a little more often and sit courtside at games, especially if the Sixers develop into a contender again!
