Beatrice Miller, with her knit hat and overall edgy look, performed Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time' on tonight's (Nov. 14) diva-themed episode of 'X Factor.' She's a diva-in-training, so here was her chance to show off her pipes. How'd she do?

Miller is just 13, but she has a mature, smoky voice, one that is not indicative of her age. L.A. Reid cooed, "How are you so cute?" Then he said he didn't like the song choice, since she it didn't allow her to show her chops. Even so, her tone was soulful and measured, and she turned in a sweet and haunting performance.

Simon Cowell liked hearing Miller sing in the lower register, but he also felt the song was boring and that's when poor Beatrice's jaw hit the floor. She looked like she just got punched in the gut upon hearing SiCo's criticism. He bemoaned the performance, saying the song went on and on and on. It's true that it's a heavy, contemplative song, but given Miller's tender age, we've gotta say. She handled it with poise not normally reserved for, well, a kid. Her mentor Britney Spears got Miller's back, saying she did just fine.

The judge's panel was clearly mixed in its reactions to Beatrice Miller. She sang like a seasoned professional at a young age but the song didn't demonstrate her chops.

Will she be safe from elimination? Tune in tomorrow (Nov. 15.)
