Technology has amplified everything that sucks about dating -- one unanswered text can send someone into a downward spiral of self loathing and second-guessing. Even dating apps, which offer endless options at a single swipe, have turned meeting new people into an exhausting chore. Celebrities must have it much easier, right? Well, according to Zac Efron, dating as a public figure comes with its own specific set of issues.

“Dating is something I’ll never be able to do,” he said in an interview with The Times via US Weekly. “As in the dictionary definition of dating, because one way or another I’ve impacted that person’s life and they’ll soon realize it. …A date has to be very long to dispel whatever people think of me.”

Shortly after breaking up with Sami Miro, his girlfriend of nearly two years, Efron downloaded Tinder in an attempt to get back out there. He claims that he got zero matches, which is unsurprising, because anyone with even a modicum of common sense would have a hard time believing Zac Efron, of all people, would resort to online dating.

“Amazingly, when I signed up for Tinder, nobody swiped me!” he said. “They thought [my profile] was fake.”

But dating isn't the only thing getting him down.

Efron, who says he used to Google himself each morning, admitted that online comments contributed to his past struggle with depression.

“I lost my mind because of the Internet,” Efron said. “I’d read 30 positive things and one bad thing, then I’d harbor that bad thing. It drove me crazy.”
