Despite several past comments pointing to the contrary, Zayn Malik wants you to know he'll forever cherish his time spent with One Direction.

An excerpt from Zayn's forthcoming memoir -- aptly titled Zayn -- details his self-proclaimed appreciation for the five years he spent as one-fifth of the world's most popular boyband.

“I got to meet amazing fans, and I can never thank all of them enough for the love and support they gave me during the good times, and the bad," Zayn wrote, according to Teen Vogue.

The Mind of Mine singer even has a wall in his home covered with the accolades he received with the group.

"I can honestly say I’m proud of a lot of stuff from the One Direction days. I’m not sure people realize that, but I am," he continued. "I’ve got the memorabilia – the platinum discs we received with every album – all over my house. I have a wall dedicated to displaying them. One Direction was an incredible experience in its own right, and it’s a part of me, an integral part of my history, and I’m never going to deny that aspect of my life.”

Zayn was quick to denounce the "generic as f---" music he performed with One Direction shortly after quitting the band in the middle of a world tour last year. He then left a sour taste in fans' mouths when he said things like, “I never really wanted to be there in the band, I just gave it a go because it was there at the time,” and, "That’s not music that I would listen to. Would you listen to One Direction, sat at a party with your girl? I wouldn’t. To me, that’s not an insult, that’s me as a 22-year-old man."

But to his credit, the "Pillowtalk" singer has always been gracious in speaking to his interpersonal relationships within the band itself, noting his dissatisfaction with the group was strictly creativity-based.

“No one can ever say I was ungrateful, even though it sort of comes across that way when I mention that I was frustrated with the band," he told Complex earlier this year. "That’s not the case at all. That was just an experience that had to be dealt with at the time. With the music that I’m doing now, I get to express myself, and that creative tension is gone.”

Maybe now the rest of 1D will return Zayn's calls?
