After tweeting her displeasure with having to be a ginger kid – that's code for redhead -- for three weeks in order to transition from her signature shiny black locks to the final destination that is a softer, more summer-appropriate blonde, Katy Perry appears to finally have the hair color she hoped for.

Perry debuted the new hue when she helped announce the 2011 MTV VMAs on Wednesday night. Funny thing is, she is actually a natural blonde, so this should be a familiar look for those who've know her since before she was famous. However, much of the public only knows Perry as a raven-haired temptress.

You don't have to work at a salon or have to have gone to beauty school to understand that you can't go from dark to light in one single process. Actually, you have to go through a series of sittings to gradually and safely remove the dark pigment and to achieve a lighter one, but we can understand Perry''s anxiety over having to endure a transitional shade.

When she first went light, Perry tweeted: "So I didn't get to the exact color I wanted from being black for so long! 2get to goal I have 2b GINGER for 3WKS #paybackfromGINGERGodsFML!"

After that abbreviation and youth-lingo laden tweet, Perry appeared to reason with herself, posting: "If I don't wait 3wks, I'll end up w/no hair or a #pixie90scutw/abarretteinthefront It's okay, I'll get to my secret color(s) soon! #patience."

Patience has paid off for Perry, who is now rocking a soft, honeyed shade. While we always dug Perry for her dark, exotic look and Bettie Page bangs, she's still stunning with a lighter hue. We predict she'll eventually return to her signature satiny night sky shade, since she's such a style chameleon.

We're especially curious as to whether or not the 'Firework' singer will be flaxen haired when the VMAs roll around in late August. She's up for nine awards, so we know she is going to look her best!
