The Bachelor

Famous for introducing phrases like “fantasy suite” and “rose ceremony” into the national lexicon, the ABC reality dating show ‘The Bachelor’ debuted in 2002. Hosted by Chris Harrison, the series features a handsome man choosing his wife from among some two dozen beautiful (and sometimes a little crazy) women. The Bachelor takes contestants on a series of romantic one-on-one dates and drama-filled group dates, often in exotic locations around the world. Women are eliminated at the end of each episode, with those remaining being asked, “Will you accept this rose?” The goal of the show is a proposal of marriage (aka the “final rose”). While very few of the series' relationships have made it all the way to the altar, the show remains nevertheless extremely popular, and has sparked two spinoffs, ‘The Bachelorette’ and ‘Bachelor Pad.’
