The Outlawz Say They Smoked Tupac’s Ashes

File this under "Strange But True" category in hip-hop history. Apparently members of Tupac Shakur's old group, The Outlawz, smoked the cremated ashes of their fallen hero after his funeral. Yes, we are shocked by this news, as well.

One of the members confirmed to VLADTV that they did, indeed, puff-puff and pass a marijuana joint filled with 2Pac's remains in memory of the late rapper's song 'Black Jesus,' in which he requested that his ashes be smoked after his death.

"Yes, it's definitely true," said one of the members of Outlawz. "[We] had a little memorial for him with his [mom] and his family. We had hit the beach, threw [in] a lot of s--- he liked at the beach -- some weed, some chicken wings [and] he loved orange soda. 'Pac loved that kind of s---, so we were giving him our own farewell."

Comically, the Huffington Post wondered if it was healthy to smoke someone's ashes in a cigarette so they asked a physician. "Smoking any material that's not regulated is what we would call an unknown danger," Dr. Clifford Bassett told the website. "It always increases your risk of having respiratory complications."

We don't think the Outlawz are suffering any breathing problems from toting Tupac's ashes. If anything, it probably inspired them to create more music. However, we disagree with the Huff Post that this will now become a new trend for musicians to follow. At least, we hope not.

Meanwhile, Sept. 13 will mark the 15th anniversary of Tupac Shakur's untimely death. The late rapper and actor, who has sold 100 million records worldwide, was shot four times on Sept. 7 in Las Vegas. He died six days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. Since his death, hundreds of official and unofficial posthumous albums were released in his honor. In 2010, the Library of Congress immortalized Tupac's timeless classic 'Dear Mama' into the National Recording Registry.
