Rumors circulated that Beyonce might be performing at the 2016 BET Awards when her Formation World Tour backup dancers suddenly showed up on the red carpet in, well, formation. The BeyHive was not disappointed, as she ended up opening the show.

Taking to the the smoke-covered, red-drenched stage, Beyonce launched into "Freedom," her anthemic gospel-inspired track off Lemonade. As water poured onto the stage, the artist, along with her troupe of dancers, splashed across the platform, the lights bouncing off the liquid to create a molten gold effect.

After a fierce pyrotechnics-assisted dance breakdown, rapper Kendrick Lamar joined Bey onstage for a spirited verse, the two electrifying the award show with their palpable creative chemistry.
