If Adele wants to keep her voice healthy, she'll have to give up the cigarettes. That's according to Boy George, who recently quit smoking himself and says it's the best thing he's ever done.

Adele has been a regular smoker, but after she had to undergo throat surgery and cancel tour dates, the Culture Club singer says she should reconsider how much she needs the nicotine buzz.

"If you’re a singer and you smoke it really isn’t a great idea," George tells the Daily Mirror. "I gave up smoking six months ago which was the best thing I ever did. I used to try to convince myself it made me sound jazzier," he told the paper. "It was very difficult to give up but I’m so glad I did."

The fact that George finally gave up smoking at age 50 shows how hard it can be for some to kick the habit. Adele has stated that smoking wasn't causing her health problems, but she did attempt to quit cold turkey, even though she hated to give it up.

“If I wasn’t a singer I still would be smoking 25 a day," she said in October. "Smoking is my favorite thing to do in the world, I am gutted I have had to give up. But I have been tough – no patches, no gum, no hypnotism. It f—ing sucks.”
