After a private hospital viewing attended by his family members and girlfriend / co-star, Lea Michele, 'Glee' actor Cory Monteith's body was cremated in Vancouver, Canada, where he died of a drug and alcohol overdose last weekend.

The body was released to his mother, Ann McGregor, on July 16. She held a private hospital viewing with Michele and his older brother, Shaun, before proceeding with the cremation.

Monteith's father, Joe, was not invited to the viewing. He is divorced from Monteith's mother and said he is "totally devastated" over the fact that he didn't get the chance to give his son a proper goodbye.

"I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very, very much. I’m saddened at the fact that I couldn’t have been there to see my son before he was cremated," Joe Monteith told TMZ. He was also shocked about his son's heroin problems.

Father and son were estranged at one point, with Cory saying in 2011, "We’d spoken maybe three or four times [during that period] and he reached out to me on Facebook. I couldn’t shut the door, so I got on a plane."

Amidst the cremation news, rumors have surfaced that Monteith and Michele were talking marriage. A formal engagement never materialized, but they discussed it and were planning to make a permanent commitment, which only serves to make Monteith's death that much more tragic.

Michele has continued to request privacy through her rep.
