The incomparable Dave Grohl has finally met his match... in a muppet.

An upcoming episode of ABC’s The Muppets will see the Foo Fighters frontman compete in an epic drum-off against fellow drummer (and longtime nemesis), Animal.

In the minute-long clip, Grohl sits atop his stool, like a King overseeing his kingdom. He says, “I’ve been waiting years for this, Animal,” before the muppet launches into a series of beats and fills. Once he stops, Grohl lightly hits a cymbal and says, “Oh, what’s that, a bell? Time for school.”

The two go at it with increasing intensity until their drum kits are decimated and both are left breathless, each declaring the other the winner.

While this specific episode is set to air tonight (December 1), a clip of their drum duel mercifully made its way online a few hours ahead of the U.S. airing of the show — blame Canada for that one: The Muppets already aired there last night (November 30).

In related news, Foo Fighters recently released the five-song Saint Cecilia EP for free along with a letter from Grohl recounting the band’s Sonic Highways tour, broken leg and all. Grohl added a special foreword to the letter, with a dedication to those affected by the devastating terrorist attacks that took place in Paris last month. The band wound up canceling the remainder of their Sonic Highways tour in light of the attacks.

Read the full letter on the Foo Fighters site. And watch Grohl and Animal beat the hell out of their respective drum kits in the video above.
