Demi Lovato took over for Selena Gomez (who was forced to cancel for reasons pertaining to her health) at the 2016 Global Citizen Festival in New York City on Saturday (September 24), where she rallied the Central Park crowd with a moving cover of Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."

While performing at the organization's event to raise awareness for global poverty, she used the opportunity to advocate for a cause dear to her heart: gender equality.

"Thank you global citizens, especially all of you who are working toward the global goal of gender equality and standing up for women and girls everywhere," the performer told the crowd before launching into the empowering 1967 classic. "This next one has inspired and lifted up women everywhere for years, even since before I was born, and it still does."

She continued: "This is called '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman),' and it goes out to women and girls all around the world."

Demi's performance of "A Natural Woman" isn't the first time she's covered Aretha, either: In August 2015, she slayed her rendition of "Ain't No Way" while performing at the Time Warner Cable VMAs Concert.

Aside from covering the iconic song, the Confident pop star also sang a handful of her own hits at the festival, including "Confident" and "Cool For the Summer." Watch the clips below:
