Frank Ocean No Longer Touring With Coldplay
Billboard reports that Ocean was slated to perform a slew of European festival dates, notably the Way Out West festival in Sweden, along with his Coldplay arena shows (which will also feature Rita Ora). Ocean released a somewhat run-on (though seemingly heartfelt) statement through Way Out West organizers to announce the cancellation. Ocean wrote, "Let me start by saying I feel like an a------ right now, but a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months, and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and m y opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as f---, but I'll be back if you'll have me."
The Way Out West organizers offered their own explanation, which was much more vague than Ocean's, saying only, "Both Frank Ocean and we hoped hoped for the best, but unfortunately he will not be performing."
Ocean hasn't cited any specific reason for the cancellation or explained what scheduling conflicts he's facing, but vocal issues may be at least in part to blame. Billboard notes that Ocean didn't complete his Oya festival performance in Norway, singing only four tracks before bailing due to "vocal problems." As the world witnessed with both John Mayer and Adele, vocal cord issues aren't to be taken lightly when your bread and butter is your buttery smooth voice, so pulling out of live performances is likely for the best if this is the case with Ocean as well.
Here's hoping the Odd Future singer gets well soon so he can make it up to his fans!
