Dinky.

That's how Gotye (AKA Wally de Backer) referred to the 'Glee' cover of 'Somebody That I Used to Know,' which was performed on the show's April 10 'Big Brother' episode.

If you don't use or encounter the word in everyday conversation, it means 'small.' Apparently, the frontman wasn't feeling what Darren Criss and guest star Matt Bomer did to the song as Blaine and his brother Cooper on the show. His description was as follows: "It made it sound dinky and wrong."

Billboard reports that the singer also didn't like how "pop" the show made the song, saying, "They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop 'Glee' style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense." He continued, "It's like it's playing to you from a cardboard box."

Dinky or not, the song's appearance on the hit FOX show nevertheless helped it top the Billboard 100 singles chart after the fact. That, combined with his 'SNL' appearance, didn't hurt the song's chart ascent.

In this case, perhaps he should have been a wee bit thankful, "dinky" or not. Even so, we support an artist's right to be sensitive or critical when their compositions are covered by others.
