Gym Class Heroes, ‘Stereo Hearts’ Feat. Adam Levine – Song Review
One year after releasing a solo album, Travie McCoy is back with his boys in Gym Class Heroes, whose new single 'Stereo Hearts' features Maroon 5 singer and 'The Voice' judge Adam Levine.
The Benny Blanco-produced track kicks off with Levine's sweet pipes crooning the chorus:
"My heart's a stereo / It beats for you, so listen close / Hear my thoughts in every note / Make me your radio and turn me up when you are low / This melody was meant for you to sing along to my stereo."
The verse brings a rugged synth base that's more grimy than you might expect from a cheery pop song, while McCoy, an ex-flame of Katy Perry, raps that he's more than just another record on the shelf and touches on his past loves:
"Furthermore, I apologize for any skipping tracks / That last girl that played me left a couple cracks / I used to used to used to used to, now I’m over that / Cause holding grudges over love is ancient artifacts."
Overall, 'Stereo Hearts' is a fun track with an appealing hook and "oh-oh-oh" breakdowns between verses. It's a solid comeback for the group, whose last album, 'The Quilt,' dropped in 2008.
The song will appear on 'The Papercut Chronicles II,' a sequel to the band's debut, which featured the eventual Top 10 hit 'Cupid's Chokehold.'
