Joe Jonas made his first planned public appearance since the whole Jonas Brothers brouhaha in Los Angeles last night (Oct. 17).

While he didn't address the Jo Bro breakup rumors stemming from their tour cancellation and deleted Twitter account, Joe did talk to the press at the star-studded Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts Gala in Beverly Hills.

Asked about the "deep rift within the band," Joe stated, "I'm not going to talk about that right now." It's not much, but it's certainly a big improvement over the "shut up" he said to reporters earlier in the week!

We don't know why he would want to appear in public so soon, but maybe he's trying to get out in front of the rumors of his possible drug addiction -- or maybe he just wants to plant a seed concerning his next career move.

"I think acting would be fun," he told reporters. "I would like to [get into that]."

Who knows what's next for the brothers, but stay tuned ... certainly the Jonas drama is far from over.
