Donald Trump continued to prove his vow to protect the American LGBTQ community was simply lip service this morning (July 26) when he tweeted that the United States military will soon ban transgender soldiers from serving.

In a series of rapidfire tweets, Trump claimed that transgender soldiers were a distraction and too costly to accommodate. It is worth noting, though, that Trump wouldn't know how military operates first-hand, as he avoided calls to military action five times: four while he was a college student, and a fifth time for an unclear foot condition, according to The New York Times.

"After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you," Trump tweeted.

Still, a 2016 Rand Corp. study found that trans soldiers have "minimal impact" on overall military action. Further, where cost is concerned, the United States military spends $84 million on Viagra and related prescriptions each year for soldiers, but would only spend an estimated $5 million for trans soldiers. The annual budget for healthcare-related matters in the military is close to $50 billion.
