After Bette Midler issued a series of tweets last week, voicing her displeasure over Lady Gaga borrowing from her stage routing by appearing as a mermaid in a wheelchair, Gaga has finally responded, paying nothing but respect to Midler but also claiming ignorance over the stunt. Gaga also revealed that she resorted to using a wheelchair simply because she couldn't move in her mermaid tail. Her mermaid alter ego is named Yuyi, in case you weren't aware!

"I didn't know that she'd done [it], but I do now and I think it's great,” Gaga told Access Hollywood about not knowing that a handicapped mermaid was part of Midler's routine. "Obviously I feel connected to women in theater and women from the past … Maybe we're just cut from the same cloth. I couldn't hop around in that tail so I just stuck myself in a wheelchair."

She also gushed about her feelings for Midler, saying, "All I’ll say is that I … admire her and find her to be one of the most brilliant and incredible performers, so that's all I'll say."

Gaga did say she thinks that Midler's tweets were only semi-serious, saying, "Maybe she was just joking too. She's funny. Who knows?" Midler did propose the two divas have a drink at this year's Emmys, so perhaps they will hug it out then!
