Thanks to diet and exercise, 'American Idol' finalist Lauren Alaina is now 25 pounds lighter than she was just five months ago. In the new issue of Us Weekly, the 16-year-old talks about how she dropped the weight.

"Changing my diet was the big thing," she tells the magazine. "I had to learn correct portion control." She describes her typical diet: "I eat an egg-white omelet for breakfast, shrimp and veggies for lunch and chicken with asparagus for dinner."

Alaina says she works out daily, incorporating crunches, pushups and squats into her routine. And the effort has paid off. "I'm 10 pounds from my goal -- almost there! I wear size small and extra-small now!"

The country singer showed off her new figure in recent appearances at the Broadcasting & Cable Hall Of Fame Awards in New York and at a Nashville screening of the new 'Footloose' movie.

Alaina is likely to keep the weight if she stays active on tour. Though she has only two tour dates currently scheduled, she could return to the road to support her debut album, 'Wildflower,' which sold 69,000 copies in its first week to enter the album chart at No. 5.
