Megan Hilty doesn't have to fight to be the star anymore. The singer / actress, who plays Ivy Lynn on NBC's 'Smash,' has just signed a recording contract with Columbia Records.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Broadway actress will release a studio album with Columbia through Sony's subsidiary Masterworks, home to the likes of Wilson Phillips and Kristin Chenoweth. 'Smash' co-star and 'American Idol' alum Katharine McPhee landed a recording contract with Columbia in June 2011.

In addition to her part on 'Smash,' Hilty is known for her stage roles as Glinda in 'Wicked' and Doralee Rhodes in '9 to 5: The Musical.' She has also appeared in several films and TV shows throughout her career. The 30-year-old Bellevue, Wash. native is currently working on demos for her forthcoming LP, although there's no word on when the album is set to hit shelves.

Oh, but the good news doesn't end there. 'Smash' has been renewed for a second season. The show follows two starlets who are wrapped up in the drama of a Broadway production based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Hilty and McPhee are pitted against each other throughout the series, which airs on Mondays at 10PM on NBC.
