One Direction came together to raise $2,000 for an Alzheimer's Disease charity. The cause hits close to home for the 1D boys, as Eleanor Calder, the girlfriend of member Louis Tomlinson, has an Alzheimer's-stricken grandfather.

1D donated a t-shirt signed by the entire band to an eBay auction that benefitted the British Alzheimer's Society, a care and research charity for those suffering from the affects of the degenerative condition, including dementia.

Calder was over the moon about the band's action. She said, "I'm so pleased the boys have decided to support Alzheimer's Society in this way. My grandfather has dementia and my family and I have had first hand experience of how the condition affects every aspect of a person's life."

Jenny Hughes, chief executive of the Alzheimer's Society, also commended 1D for their generosity, saying, "The boys' support will help us reach new audiences and raise awareness of dementia amongst younger people. Everyone has a role to play in improving the lives of people with dementia."

Indeed, it wasn't only about the shirt. The boys were using their star power to raise awareness about this disease among their young fans. That in and of itself is invaluable and you can't put a price tag on information. So 1D contributed even more than a t-shirt that raised a few grand!
