One Direction, ‘One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)’ – Song Review

The band will perform the track, recorded for charity for Red Nose Day (March 15), at the BRIT Awards.
Musically, the entire group is on point. Even Louis Tomlinson, who sometimes faces criticism for his vocals, actually sounds phenomenal in his solo.
However, the lyrics sound a little creepy being sung by men, even ones as presh as 1D. Seriously, think it over: “I will drive past your house / And if the lights are all out / I’ll see who’s around” and “And if the lights are all out / I’ll follow your bus downtown / See who’s hanging out” in particular sound more like the makings of a Lifetime movie than a cheeky come on when Harry Styles and Co. sing it instead of Debbie Harry. Thankfully, there’s less of Harry’s signature snarl, making it sound more fun and less aggressive.
Obviously, this isn’t the band’s fault, but it does sort of taint the listening experience a bit.
Still, it’s catchy, it’s fun and it sounds like exactly what you’d expect when One Direction cover Blondie. Big ups to the boys for doing an awesome job for a great cause. You can snag a copy of ‘One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)’ here.
