One Direction vs. The Vamps – PopCrush Battle of the Bands (Round One)
From boy bands like One Direction and Big Time Rush to girl groups like Fifth Harmony and Little Mix to bands of the more traditional variety (aka the ones who play instruments) like 5 Seconds of Summer and The Vamps -- there's an exorbitant amount of bands reigning supreme in pop music right now. So we thought it'd be fun to pit them all against each other in a good ol' fashioned Battle of the Bands.
Our first round sees One Direction against fellow UK band The Vamps. The X Factor UK's greatest success story, 1D catapulted to unprecedented, world-wide success a little over three years ago, following the success of their debut album Up All Night. They managed, above all odds, to maintain an upward trajectory and saw a continued boost of their own popularity throughout their career, ultimately becoming one of the biggest pop acts in the world. Even the departure of one of their most skilled vocalists, Zayn Malik, did little to (ahem) drag them down as their latest single gave the group their highest first-week sales numbers to date. They may soon be taking a long-overdue hiatus, but at least they're doing it while they're still at the top.
It might seem unfair to ask anyone to compete with One Direction, but the Vamps can hold their own. With their catchy pop hooks, a Demi Lovato feature and a dedicated fan base, the Vamps earned comparisons to 1D back in the day, but they're quick to stress that they play their own instruments and write their own songs, which is all true.
